Operational SOPs
3 SOPsFRP-015: Truckmount Vehicle Safety & Waste Water Disposal
Exhaust Positioning — Carbon Monoxide Prevention
- Always position the truckmount vehicle so the exhaust pipe faces away from the building, home entrance, open windows, and any pedestrian walkways
- Carbon monoxide (CO) from the truckmount engine is odourless and deadly — exhaust must never be directed toward living spaces, air intakes, or areas where residents, crew, or bystanders may be exposed
- Before starting the truckmount, do a quick 360° check: confirm exhaust is not pointed at doorways, windows, patios, children's play areas, or neighbouring properties
- If the only available parking position directs exhaust toward the building, reposition the vehicle or use an exhaust extension hose to redirect fumes safely
- Never idle the truckmount in an enclosed or semi-enclosed space (parkade, covered carport, garage)
Waste Water Disposal — BC Health & Safety Regulations
- Carpet cleaning waste water contains detergents, soil, and contaminants — it is not permitted to be dumped into storm drains, ditches, creeks, or onto open ground
- Dispose of waste water in compliance with BC Environmental Management Act and local municipal bylaws:
- Approved disposal methods:
- Sanitary sewer (toilet, laundry drain, or floor drain connected to sanitary system) — this is the preferred method
- Approved liquid waste disposal facility
- On-site holding tank with scheduled pump-out (if no sanitary sewer access)
- Never dump waste water in parking lots, landscaped areas, road gutters, or storm drains — storm drains flow directly to waterways
- If unsure about the site's drainage, ask the Building Manager or homeowner before disposing
- Document disposal method in Skedulo job notes for compliance tracking
